Internal Medicine is the branch of medical science concerned with the diagnosis, management and nonsurgical treatment of unusual or serious diseases. Most of the internists (internal medicine specialists) are subspecialists: they generally limit their medical practice to problems of one organ system or to one particular area of medical knowledge. For example, gastroenterologists and nephrologists specialize respectively in diseases related to gut and the kidneys.
The Department of General Medicine at ASUTOSH provides primary and sub specialty diagnostic and health care services for adolescents, adults and geriatric patients. This division specializes in primary care, general health assessments and consultation for complex medical problems. The qualifications of the specialists encompass general or primary care internal medicine, cardiology, diabetes and endocrinology, geriatrics, pulmonary and critical care, sleep medicine and infectious diseases and AIDS.
