Osteoporosis |
Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens bones, causing loss of bone mass and strength, which further makes bones susceptible to sudden and unexpected fractures. The disease often progresses without any symptoms or pain. Generally, it is not discovered until weakened bones cause painful fractures. Most of these are fractures of the spine hip and wrist.

Osteoporosis itself has no symptoms; its main consequence is the increased risk of bone fractures. Its possible signs may include: |

Causes |
The most common causes of osteoporosis are: |

Diagnosis and Risk Factors |
Osteoporosis can be detected at an early stage with a routine Bone Density Test, also called Bone Densitometry. This may be recommended as a routine test after Menopause.
